Make your life easier with a simple, organised kitchen. Here are five simple steps you can take to start reorganising.
Step 1: Sort and Remove
Remove everything from the cabinets and discard those you hardly use, duplicates, broken items or things you forgot you had. Do this with each cabinet and drawer, setting up separate areas on the floor for each group.
Step 2: Group and Categorise Items
After your cabinets and drawers are all empty, consider what is best for you in terms of how to group items. Sort all your baking items and pile them together. Sort your cooking items and pile them together. Do the same with your dinnerware and partyware.
Step 3: Store Stuff Where You Use It
The most basic way to simplify your kitchen is to arrange your items so that everything is stored close to the place where you use it. The things you use often should be stored closest to the work counters. Place coffee or tea station that includes sugar, mugs and filters near the water source, if possible.
Step 4: Use Clear Containers
Group together things like packets of sauce mixes, gravy mixes and unopened spice packets, then put them into small plastic containers to avoid them being scattered all over the cabinet. Use clear plastic storage boxes to store food that is in small boxes such as gelatin or pudding mix.
Step 5: Use Drawer Dividers
Drawers are convenient for storage and stashing, but not when it starts to overflow. Drawer dividers will allow you to assign a little spot for each thing, and you'll be able to find things when you need them.
